Rescue Ranger

A very exciting trip to Alpine today. We were just 15 miles or so away from town when the clutch gave out on the little Ranger. Truthfully, we knew it was due to quit but wanted to eke out every last mile before replacing it.

But on the way to Alpine, with a bed full of trash and recycling, was a very inconvenient time to die!

We are very lucky, though. After a few cars passed us by, our friend and neighbor Kevin Elmore (of Green Scene land restoration demo fame) stopped to help. We managed to get a tow back to the Ranch, and we'll be ordering up all the necessary parts soon.

Looks like we'll be in the shop this weekend.

Rename, Republish

A few corrections are in order...

First off, let us correctly identify our last project as the Portable Pedal Powered Pumper. The PPPP is at home in East Texas with Dr. Deb, where we hope she is enjoying the alliterative device (please excuse the grammar-nerd joke).

And secondly, it recently came to our attention that Blogger was missing over 100 entries that were imported from the old blog, but apparently never published.

This has been sort-of fixed, meaning that all of the old entries are now visible on Blogger, but there will be formatting errors until we have the time to go through each entry and fix the formatting. But at least now the blog record is complete, and readers can go all the way back to our first ever blog post in 2009.

It's hard to believe we've been at this for three years, already! I hope y'all have enjoyed reading as much as we have enjoyed writing.

Rain, Mud, Stuck

Had a few adventures yesterday....

Made a small shopping trip south in the AM, then went to visit Diamond Dave and Pepper.  All the dogs had fun, and played in the mud puddles while humans stuck their heads under various autos' hoods.

Then headed up farther north to look at a new friend's broken-down Subaru.  It's hard to be out here in the desert without a vehicle, so we wanted to help as much as possible. Unfortunately we had to give our friend some bad news about the timing belt jumping a tooth or two.

We headed home at dusk, but made the mistake of trying the back road.  Thanks to the recent rain, the road is a mud pit.  We made it about a mile or so while the road was dry, but hit the first mud patch and got stuck fifty feet in.

After some hooting and hollering, we hoofed it back to a customer's house and made a distress call to our good friend Terry. In typical chivalric style, he came and got us and brought us back home.

We're headed out now to try and yank the old girl out of the mud and back onto dry land.  Bringing the backup camera, so we'll post photos of our embarrassing episode soon.

The DJ Fell Asleep ...

I'd like to apologize to anyone who has been having trouble with the blog lately (including my dear husband)!  Due to some technical difficulties (me trying to do an easy fix for one problem, which turned into a different and bigger problem in an unforeseen [but really, I should have foreseen it] way), the backend of the blog software developed a path error.  If any one on the web was experiencing problems with the frontend, it was undoubtedly caused by this path error, also.

But the good news is that the immediate crisis has been resolved.  I really appreciate everyone's input on the websites, and I plan on doing some bigger upgrades very soon!

In summary:  My bad, sorry.
